Court
refuses to release GoldQuest products
The Court of Appeal has refused a request by SAR Shipping Pvt Ltd.
to release GoldQuest products imported by them that were seized
by Sri Lanka Customs.
Customs
detained the shipment on undervaluation charges, but the importer
who went to court wanted the consignment released as interim relief,
until the case is heard.
The
goods would continue to be held by Customs, until a final resolution
of the case. Customs sources said that the GoldQuest products will
most likely be confiscated.
Meanwhile,
Athula Lankadeva, Superintendent of Customs, says he has been intimidated,
once again. He told The Sunday Times FT he had received a nuisance
call on his cellular phone last Monday.
Upon
dialling the number, which appeared on his display, he had found
that it is from H.R.C. Agencies. "It is an office housed at
SAR Shipping, owned by Raju Radha," he said, adding that he
had filed a report with the Director General of Customs on this
incident. |
