Veteran radio announcer and artiste, Ariyadasa Peiris will be ceremonially felicitated on November 16 at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre at 6.30 p.m.

A booklet containing articles by renowned personalities on his dedicated service titled "Obe Katahanda Thama Mathakai" (Your Voice is Still Remembered) will also be launched. Seventy-eight- years old now, Ariyadasa Peiris, was the first announcer whose voice was heard across the nation through the Commercial Service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in 1951. Radio programmes such as "Adunika Peya", Maliban Gowan Thottila", "Pibidena Gayaka Parapura", "Pena Podi", "Suhada Pathum" and "Ambiga Geethayen Geethaya" are still remembered and cherished by listeners.

He directed films such as " Sobana Sitha", "Deva Sundari" and also took part in "Kurulu Bedda"."I laid the foundation for programmes on radio and television and this felicitation ceremony shows that the people have recognised me. It is organised by the people who revived my art, but the government failed to do so in the past," said Mr. Peiris, adding that the Media Minister and the SLBC however have been supportive.

" I am glad to felicitate my father during his lifetime," said Charitha Priyadarshani Peiris the youngest daughter of Ariyadasa Peiris who will also launch her latest CD and audiocassette titled 'Sal Mal Yaya' on the same day.
