Pleased with the whole Universe Mervyn Hettiarachchi stood behind
one of the most rewarding Fund Raising Golf Tournaments played at
the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Funds
for the Visually Handicapped was an outstanding success. Almost
a million rupees was brought into the kitty. Well over 100 responded
to Mervyn's appeal and they participated in a great spirit of camaraderie.
Hetti

The other Hettiaratchy identified in the old days as a
magnificent cricketer introduced this style to golf and has been
quite successful in several outings. Nirmal Hettiaratchy struck
a great 37 to beat Sanjeewa Wickremanayake on 36 to take the Classic
and celebrate.
Attygalle

Johnny Attygalle visiting from Australia put his loose
act together and cracked a stunning 40 point victory in the 'B'
Division beating Suren Madanayake who was quite impressive with
39 points. Both were loudly applauded at the Awards Ceremony.

protecting her strokes she won with 36 points beating Suven Selvaratnam

hell and laughed all the way to the Club House.

Awards
Once again it was Mervyn Hettiaratchi that one had to
recognize. It was Dr. Wickrema Weerasooriya who first conceived
the thought that the visually handicapped should be noticed and
supported and his laudable effort spread capture Mervyn Hettiaratchi
who very quickly collected a team to promote a tournament. The Chief
Guest the amiable Mr. Lalith Wiratunga in his very special message
alerted the audience to canvass that the handicapped must be supported.
The
loud appreciative applause indicated that his cause has support.
Mrs. Wiratunga picked Manjula Karunaratne as the winner of the Raffle.
The magnanimous Dr. Manjula returned the ticket to Bangkok for auction
towards funds for the cause. Ward Beling a young promising entrepreneur
turned philanthropist happily bought the ticket at a price much
higher than its commercial value amidst massive appreciative applause.
It was refreshing to hear Rohan Perera handle the microphone in
good humoured style. |
