Awards
Once again it was Mervyn Hettiaratchi that one had to recognize. It was Dr. Wickrema Weerasooriya who first conceived the thought that the visually handicapped should be noticed and supported and his laudable effort spread capture Mervyn Hettiaratchi who very quickly collected a team to promote a tournament. The Chief Guest the amiable Mr. Lalith Wiratunga in his very special message alerted the audience to canvass that the handicapped must be supported.

The loud appreciative applause indicated that his cause has support. Mrs. Wiratunga picked Manjula Karunaratne as the winner of the Raffle. The magnanimous Dr. Manjula returned the ticket to Bangkok for auction towards funds for the cause. Ward Beling a young promising entrepreneur turned philanthropist happily bought the ticket at a price much higher than its commercial value amidst massive appreciative applause. It was refreshing to hear Rohan Perera handle the microphone in good humoured style.
