Rohan
and Jayendra toppled in men’s doubles

Davis Cup players Rohan de Silva and Jayendra Wijesekra
were toppled by experienced Godamune and Rajapkase in the men's
Doubles finals yesterday at the Gymkhana Club (Queens Club) Open
Tennis Championship on the third day of the 50 year old tournament
being conducted at the Queens Cup Courts at Baudhaloka Mawatha,
yesterday.
In
a another game, Sanjiv Fernando, the son of former national champion
and Davis Cup player Arjun Fernando brushed aside Alex Fairbanks
to clinch the Boys under 10 finals. Meanwhile his elder brother
was beaten by Indika Wettasinghe 6/3, 6/1 in the under 14 finals.
This
tournament, which is more than 50 years old, is a ranked tournament
by the governing body the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA). The
final days play will take place today at 10.00 am with the prize
giving being held on the same day at the CH & FC starting at
7.00 pm. |
