              saves the day for Peterites

              By Bernie Wijesekera
In a game marred by fickle conditions the inter-school
cricket match between St. Peter's and Wesley at Bambalapitiya provided
two days of interesting cricket. The match ended in a draw.
             The
highlight of the match was the performance by S.A.S Wickremasekera
              - a face saving 65 (with 2 sixes and 4 fours in 121 balls) in the
Peterite first innings total of 185 all out. He followed up his
gritty batting with an immaculate spell of off-spin bowling 34-12-56-6
-6 to curtail the Wesleyites to a first innings total of 223 after
being 202 for 6 at tea.
             Wesley
was in control at one stage with Charitha Karunaratne a top scoring
with 88 (8 fours and two sixes in 181 balls). He was involved in
an opening stand of 62 with Katapearatchchi 25. But their middle
order failed to impress barring Avishka Liyanage 32. Wikcremasekera
was well supported by right arm leg spinner L.D. Rodrigo 4 for 71,
bowled out Wesley for 223 runs - all out after tea at 3.51 p.m.
             The
Peterite openers batting aggressively and attractively in the second
innings saw them to 94 for no loss in 23 overs in fading light.
Opener W.A.P. Jansze made an elegant 57 n.o., (with 2 sixes and
4 fours) while G.C. Udugamsuriya weighted in with 26 n.o, (with
              four fours).
             Scores:
              St. Peter's - 185 (Shanaka Wickermasekera 65, K. Magage 32 Anoj
