League bowler no-balled for chucking by former ICC umpire

              By Marlon Fernandopulle
In what could be an unprecedented move, a Premier
League bowler playing for Sebestianites Sports Club, Abdul Jabbar
was no balled for chucking by former ICC umpire Peter Manuel at
              Maitland Crescent last evening.
             The
incident occurred during the second day of the Chilaw Marians SC-Sebestianites
SC game. Right arm off spinner Abdul Jabbar who has been playing
Premier league cricket for some time was no balled for chucking
in the third ball of his second over yesterday. According to umpire
Peter Manuel who was officiating at the bowlers end Jabbar is definitely
having a flaw in his action and one of his deliveries which goes
straight-on is a throw. Speaking to the Sunday Times after the game
Manuel said, "I cautioned the captain Dinusha Fernando at the
beginning of the second over and said that I was not happy with
Jabbar's bowling action and subsequently no-balled his third delivery
which went straight on". According to the laws of the game
Jabbar will not be able to bowl during the innings if he is no balled
for chucking three times in an innings. Umpire Manuel is expected
to report this incident to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after the game.
