Paying
‘Pooja’ to Dharmasiri
Popular lyricist, writer and journalist the late Dharmasiri Gamage’s
classical masterpiece on silver screen ‘Pooja’ will
be screened at Regal Cinema in Colombo from November 27.
A
new film copy is used to pay tribute to the filmmaker, who excelled
in many fields. This release on CEL circuit, is to bring to the
notice of the audience, the ability of this filmmaker.
‘Pooja’
in which the lead role played by experienced Joe Abeywickrema won
a number of Sarasaviya and Presidential awards. The film won Presidential
awards for Joe Abeywickrema for Best actor, Dharmasiri Gamage for
Best Lyricist, Pandit W. D. Ameradeva for Best male vocalist and
Nanda Malani for Best female vocalist. At the Sarasaviya film festival
‘Pooja’ won awards for Dharamasiri Gamage, Best camera
(black and white)-K. D. Dayananda, Best Supporting actor-Amarasiri
Kalansuriya and Best male vocalist-Sunil Edirisinghe.
The
stellar cast in the film included Joe Abeywickrema, Geethakanthi
Jayakody, Kamal Addararachchi, Shanthi Lekha and guest performance
by Gamini Fonseka, Vijaya Kumaratunga, Ravindra Randeniya and Malani
Fonseka.
The
film was coloured with the musical score of experienced music director
Premasiri Khemadasa. Gamini Luxman Fernando produced ‘Pooja’.
The film which had never been screened on televison would be a rare
opportunity for all film lovers and specially to Dharmasiri Gamage
fans. |
