Stabbing
of cardiologist: Minister's wife not yet questioned
By Asif Fuard
Police have still not recorded a statement from Minister
Rohitha Bogollagama's wife, Deepthi, who allegedly stabbed well-known
cardiologist Dr. S. Narenthiran at his Borella residence on Friday.
Police
said they wanted to first record a statement from the injured doctor
before calling on Ms. Bogollagama, who allegedly stabbed the cardiologist
in a dispute connected to a marital problem.
Dr.
Narenthiran told the media he was getting ready to go to hospital
for consultations on Friday when Ms. Bogollagama came there and
argued with him over why he did not turn up for the court case connected
to the marital problem.
The
cardiologist said that when he went back to his house to pick up
his cell phone, she had quietly followed him. Screaming "I
have come to kill you, I have come to kill you", Ms. Bogollagama
stabbed him in the back, Dr. Narenthiran claimed.
A
civil case concerning the marital problem had been filed by Mr.
Bogollagama and the matter was to be settled on Thursday but Dr.
Narenthiran's wife had not turned up.
In
this case Minister Bogollagama had claimed 50 million rupees as
damages from Dr. Narenthiran's wife Dr. Nishadi Ranasinghe for interfering
in his marital life.
In
his plaint he had complained that Dr. Ranasinghe had phoned his
wife and had alleged that Dr. Ranasinghe had an illicit relationship
with the Minister.
He
claimed that Dr. Ranasinghe had maliciously damaged his reputation
and goodwill as a politician. Mr. Bogollagama later informed court
he was withdrawing the plaint as a settlement had been reached. |
