Milo
to inspire junior golf
"Sri Lanka's junior golfers have made an impact in the Asian
region. They get regular exposure to match their skills with their
junior counterparts", said Dion Jayasuriya, president of Sri
Lanka Golf Union. "At present times, Golf is no longer an affluent
sport. All encouragement is given to the young caddies. Harnessing
talent at grassroots level was started way back in late 80's, pioneered
by Ian Peiris.
It
has borne fruit. Of course the likes of late Manik Thurairaja "Gun"
Peiris and Rookie Kodagoda played a dynamic role of the women's
rugby section. They nursed and nurtured them like foster parents
to become useful citizens via golf, in the process to refrain from
other evils. This scribe was aware of the good work done by them".
This was brought to light at a media confab held at the RCGC to
outline the forthcoming Milo sponsored junior Gold Championship
- 04 to be conducted from Dec. 15, 16 and 17 at the RCGC greens.
