Captain
Kumar toasted at model farm
The weekend belonged to stocky Kumar Boralessa the Captain of the
Royal Colombo and as a tribute to him the Club conducted a 2 day
stroke play competition for a Trophy presented by him. The contest
was supremely successful with massive participation.
First
Day
On the first day's play Suren Madanayake produced a smashing
run of skill that produced a tremendous nett 66 the lowest score
over the 2 days. Coming behind with a praiseworthy collection was
young spritely Shehan Ramanayake on 69. Sarath Silva, Frank Weeraratne,
Amal Cabraal, Michael Dias, Joseph Kenny & Lal de Mel are a
few from the many who played hell merrily.
2nd
Day
Primal Wijenayake came off with quite a classy performance.
He beamed all afternoon with nett 67 and to be identified as the
best that day. Coming warm behind him was flashy Tissa Jayasinghe
on nett 68. Madanayake & Jayasinghe combined superbly to celebrate
incessantly at the glorious 19th. Chula Ariyaratne, Lal de Mel,
Elmo Silva, Nirmal Ranasinghe, Lalinda Dharmaratna, Rohan Perera
& A.L.N. Jayasuriya are a few of the many who played round the
neighbourhood of the course with more than one 'jump in the drink'
Stylish
Win
Sanjeewa Virawanathan was elegant in victory with a fine
display of well calculated stroke play. 140 nett over 2 rounds was
quite commendable and her deserved the handsome Kumar Boralessa
Trophy. Tissa Jayasinghe lost concentration once when he kept his
head up when it should have been down to crash a shot and drop to
runner-up. A gamey loser he was the first to congratulate Virawathanan
and then light up the 19th in his usual extravaganza way. Virawathanan
was runner-up at the 19th.
Team
Event
Sunil Jayakody, Don Indram & Suren Madanayake made
a formidable trio to win the team event handsomely and move into
rough celebrations over the pre-lunch period.
Awards
Just about a century sat for lunch. Boralessa intoxicated
with popularity excelled in speechcraft. He was quick to thank the
colleagues who rallied round him to make the 125th Anniversary celebration
a rousing success. He emphasized that it was a great team event.
Tita Nathanielsz the President chipped in with an amusing example
of Boralessa's diplomacy which raised much laughter. Gavin Senn
on Sax was great and the old duo Ajantha Mylvaganam & Norman
Gunewardena battled to successfully impress with their golden oldies
duets.
The
sound system was jarring once again and the comparing was inadequate
lacking lively patter so important on such fun occasions. It was
one big helluva super Luncheon party lavishly hosted by the Club.
