It’s party time in Moratuwa
‘Mega X’Mas Musical Extravaganza’ will come alive at the popular Carlton Club Premises in Moratuwa on Friday, December 17 commencing at 8.00 p.m. This fund raising event mainly organized for the proposed swimming Pool Project for the Club.

‘ The construction of this Swimming Pool will commence early 2005 and would cater specially to the students of the area as none of the schools in Moratuwa are having this facility’ said Lakith Peiris, the Chairman of the organising committee.

The Entertainment packed Mega Musical Extravaganza will include trade stalls, food & beverage stalls, live music, Show Dancing and Children’s Play Area. ‘A large number of people are expected to attend this event’ he added.

The Official Opening Ceremony will be at 8.00 p.m. on December 17 with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. The Chief Guest will be the World Cup Winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga presently the Deputy Minister of Industries and Tourism.

The Special Invitee Romesh Kaluwitharana, who recently retired from International Cricket will arrive at this time and will be received by the Committee of Management of the Club headed by the President Upali Seneviratne, Members of the Organizing Committee headed by Lakith Peiris and Trustees of the Club.

‘A Grand Felicitation Programme has been planned to honour this world class entertaining Cricketer, which he richly deserves for his contribution in taking Sri Lanka Cricket to the highest level and bringing Honour and Glory to our Motherland and his Hometown - Moratuwa.’ Lakith said.

The Organizers have decided not to divulge the details of the Felicitation Ceremony as it would steal the sting of the event. Carlton Club which is a Social and Sports Club in existence since 1923 and considered to be the Premier Club in Moratuwa has seized this opportunity to felicitate “Little Kalu” who hails from the neighborhood, in the backdrop of festivities planned over a period of 3 days.

Past and present Cricketers, Cricket Administrators, Sports Journalists and everyone connected with this glorious game of Cricket will be in attendance to honour this great cricketer.

After the Felicitation Programme, there will be Carols by Candle Light with the singing led by talented and versatile musician Rukshan Perera of Super Golden Chimes fame, who has recently returned to settle down in Sri Lanka from New York after 24 years.

The Candle lighting is provided by a BOI company having its factory in Moratuwa owned by Belgians, exporting elegantly created and scented candles to all over the world. Those attending this function will be able to buy at their Stall some of the very rare and unique candles which are normally meant only for the export market.

This would be followed by an evening of Song and Dance going into early hours and those attending will be treated to high quality Music to be performed by many Famous names in the Showbiz scene. Those expected to perform include Sunil, Piyal and Cumar of the Gypsies, Judy de Silva, Anil Bhareti, Lincoln de Silva, Priya Peiris to the music of Crystal Set managed by Derrick de Silva, himself a veteran musician.

Nishan Peiris the former Sri Lanka Ballroom and Latin Dancing Champion in Sri Lanka will he been in action.“Tickets are priced at an affordable Rs. 150/- for Adults and Free of Charge for Children, to encourage this to be a family event and give the opportunity to the Cricket Loving Public to Salute this Great Cricketer for his contribution and entertaining Cricket and to enjoy the spirit of the Christmas season.’ he said.
