President,
PM condole
President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse
have sent condolence messages on the demise of former Indian Prime
Minister Narasimha Rao.
The
President, in a letter to Indian Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh said
that Mr. Rao's contribution to the evolution of modern India began
with his role in the struggle for Indian independence. She stated
that the spectacular success of the Indian economy today owes a
great deal to the bold, decisive and visionary reforms initiated
by the late Mr. Rao.
The
President also pointed out that the Congress Party, under the leadership
of Prime Minister Rao contributed greatly to the initiation of an
important era in bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and India
both in economic and political terms.
Prime
Minister Rajapakse has expressed his condolences to the Indian Prime
Minister and Government on the death of former Indian Prime Minister
Narasimha Rao.
In
a letter to the Indian Premier, Mr. Rajapakse states that the former's
partnership with the late Mr. Narasimha Rao was a fruitful one in
which India was introduced to a new philosophy which has had far-reaching
results. |
