urges all political parties to come togetherJ-Biz, the umbrella organisation representing the top business chambers
in Sri Lanka, last week urged political parties to shed their differences
and work together to lift this country from the crisis that it’s
              facing.
  "We
strongly feel that this is the ideal opportunity for all political
parties in Sri Lanka to shed their differences and act together
in this hour of grave national concern and take the lead in providing
moral strength and courage to face this disaster," the group
said in a statement reflecting on the tragedy that has befallen
              Sri Lanka.. While
expressing its profound sorrow and shock over the unprecedented
national disaster, J-Biz also extended its "heartfelt sympathies
to those families who have lost their dear ones." It
appealed to all sectors of the Sri Lankan community to extend their
highest possible support and co-operation to bring relief to thousands
of suffering masses. "J-Biz also calls upon the business community
to give priority in allocating funds and resources for relief work
as government resources and infrastructure are inadequate to fight
a national calamity of this magnitude." It
said the people should act with responsibility and sympathy towards
all affected people irrespective of race, creed or cast and extend
their fullest support to provide relief to the suffering masses. It
also welcomed the prompt initiative by President Chandrika Kumaratunga
in appointing a committee comprising of all party leaders and representatives
from the LTTE in order to accelerate the relief work. |
