Award-winning film maker Jayantha
Chandrasiri’s latest movie, “Guerrilla Marketing”
will be released at the Regal Colombo and other CEL circuit cinemas
from March 4, 2004.
Jayantha
who won an award for his previous film ‘Agni Dahaya’
has written the screenplay and directed the film. Both films were
produced under the Film Development Fund project as part of NFC’s
bid to motivate talented filmmakers.
The
versatile cast in ‘Guerilla Marketing’ comprises Jackson
Anthony, Sriyantha Mendis, Kamal Addararachchi, Yashoda Wimaladarma,
Sangeetha Weeraratne, Gamini Jayalath, Priyankara Ratnayake and
Malee Jayaweera.
‘Guerrilla
Marketing’ revolves around the life style of Sri Lankan society
and how the people would react to the failures of the country within
the next few years. Jayantha Chandrasiri’s script for Guerrilla
Marketing explores the Sri Lankan traditions and culture and the
story depicts the impact of the open economic system on individual
lives.
“We
are living in a consumptive society and have become products and
are priced accordingly”, he said talking about the selection
of his theme. I had been toying with the idea of making such a film
for some time but I could not put it through. Jayantha Chandrasiri
was thankful to former NFC Chairman Jayantha Dharmadasa for selecting
his film for the project.
Starting
from “Saraswathi” in 1979 Jayantha first became popular
as a playwright producing popular theatre productions ‘Ath’,
‘Mora’ and ‘Oththukaraya’. Entering the
mini screen Jayantha became a popular teledrama director with ‘Weda
Hamine’, ‘Dandubasnamanaya’, ‘Akala Sandaya’
and ‘Rejina’ most of which clinched awards.
