No room at the top?
UNP Parliamentarian and former Minister Bandula Gunawardene, who was stranded with his family at a hotel in Arugam Bay when the tsunami struck, allegedly refused an appeal for some other children to be taken on the same flight.

When the tidal waves hit the shores, Mr. Gunawardene, his wife and five children and many others were marooned. Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe reportedly arranged a helicopter rescue when Mr. Gunawardene called him on the mobile phone.

The wife of Kushan Senarath, a manager at Lanka Orex Company told The Sunday Times they had appealed to Mr. Gunawardene to take some children with him in the helicopter. But he allegedly did not.

But Mr. Gunawardene's wife Thamara responding to the charge said yesterday there was no room in the helicopter for any others and even their son was brought in the second flight. Mr. Gunawardene is abroad.
