JVP
looks ahead Prepares to face ‘any challenge’
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) started its party reorganization
at electoral, district and national level yesterday in Maradana
with the annual general meeting of the Colombo Central electorate.
The
party's reorganizing would culminate with a mammoth National Conference
to prepare the JVP to face any challenge, a JVP National List MP
said at the meeting.
JVP
Parliamentarian Ramalingam Chandrasekaran was the chief guest while
Western Provincial Councillor Mohamed Nafli and Colombo Municipal
Councillors Hemantha Weerakoon and Sunil Kumara attended the meeting.
MP
Chandrasekaran said the JVP was prepared to face any future challenge
and triumph. He said the reorganizing of all electorates and districts
was a good omen for a great future victory for the party.
Western
Provincial Councillor Mohamed Nafli said although the JVP, with
39 seats in Parliament, 80 in Provincial Councils and over 300 in
local government bodies, was a component of the Freedom Alliance
Government, it was however not dependent on the Government for its
existance.
He
said the social arm of the party, the "Sahana Seva Balakaya"
(Relief Services Corp.) fulfilled a yeoman service not only in the
South but also in the North and East, thus winning the people's
confidence.
He
said the Freedom Alliance was able to present its "Rata Perata"
(Country Forward) and a pro-people budget due to the hard work of
the JVP and other progressive movements that supported the government.
Mr.
Nafli said as the people had given a mandate to the UPFA rejecting
the division of the country, selling of national resources and the
"Regaining Sri Lanka" plan of the UNP, they were prepared
to sacrifice even their lives during a national crisis. |
