‘Dance
Aid’ for tsunami victims

‘Dance-Aid’, a two
hour dance performance by top ballroom and Latin Dancers in Sri
Lanka will come alive at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on
Sunday, February 27 at 7.30 pm.
Dance
Aid is organized by Sri Lanka Girl Guides, Association to raise
funds for their disaster service in Tsunami areas. All proceeds
of the ‘Dance-Aid’ show will be channelled towards Tsunami
victims.
‘The
top personalities on the dance floor from the four top dance schools
in Sri Lanka will be featured at this show. They are “With
My Feet’ (Naomi Rajaratnam’s), Antonio’s Dance
Circle (Toni Fernandez), El Latino (Kevin Nugera’s) and Dance
world (Anushan Perera’s)
This
two hour show will feature nearly 20 dance items from different
dance forms such as Ballroom, Latin American, Modern, Jazz, Salsa,
Tango and rock n’ roll, With My Feet begin their segment with
O Fortuna, the depiction of the carnivorous animal and its relentless
tamer.
Next
they are set to take you through all the colour and tinsel of Bombay
and a Tango of three, where two beautiful females vie for the attention
of one man. They stop along on the way at contemporary, jazz, and
free style that will surely rock you.
The
blend of East and West that has taken the world by storm today,
and the trend is followed on stage with the “Fusion”
Culminating the segment with mercurial movements Latin America’s
jive transpires in full rhythmic force.
El
Latino together with Dance World will perform six items. These items
will be choreographed by Kevin Nugara and Anushan Perera, both experienced
Latin American Dancers who have become Sri Lanka’s Dance Champions.
There
will be a Salsa performed by El Latino and Anushan will perform
a Rumba solo. Antonio’s Dance Circle consists a team of young
and talented dancers from the ages of 9 years and onwards.
They
are lucky to be trained by Antonio Fernandez the qualified teacher
of Latin and Ballroom dancing in Sri Lanka. His students, who have
gone on to win local and international championships, have brought
fame and honour to the country.
Antonio’s
Dance Circle will perform some of the popular dance items at the
Dance Aid. Darshana Wijesuriya of Footwork will be handling the
production of the mega Dance Aid Show.
The
Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, via its Tsunami Relief Task Force,
aims to provide relief to the victims of the disaster in several
ways.‘The funds raised from this project will be utilized
for these special projects’ said a spokesperson from Sri Lanka
Girl Guides Association. |
