Private busmen drive to courts over timetable
Private bus owners are to go to courts in order to obtain licence to activate the route franchising management. "We want to get scientifically drafted timetables, so that night transport too is done properly," Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) president Gemunu Wijeratna told The Sunday Times.

Mr. Wijeratna said private bus owners hoped to get the timetable system activated before the government takes over the cluster bus companies to revive the SLCTB.

He emphasized that the drafting a timetable would be the first step in the route franchising management scheme. Commenting on recently introduced digital ticket machine, Mr. Wijeratna said the machines were neither approved by the government nor possessed a warranty.

"It should have NTC approval and warranty. Otherwise how can we use it?" Mr. Wijeratne questioned. According to Mr. Wijeratne, the Treasury has guaranteed that the digital ticket machines would be approved by the government in due course.
