Blue
ridge commander Brad strikes hole-in-one
Majeed Awn is a keen, enthusiastic and regular Golfer at the Ridgeways
of the Royal Colombo Golf Club and in his capacity representing
the U.S. Blue Ridge of the Seventh Fleet in Colombo he arranged
a festival of Golf for the members of the crew when the Vessel was
in Colombo on a Goodwill Mission & R & R. About 2 dozen
of them were enthralled with the beauty of the course, the classy
Club House and the absolute efficiency of the Caddies particularly
the females.
They
plunged into the game with a great spirit and thoroughly enjoyed
the hours spent despite the scorching weather. Angel, Rich, Brad
& Hevin were the best of the crop that played with Rich carrying
the lowest handicap of 10. In the opening round Angel was outstanding
with gross 78 nett 68. A great round and he richly deserved the
wild applause he received at the 19th over a cool Carlsberg. Coming
close behind was Latham with the same nett score 66 but his rear
nine in the count back was inadequate to beat his pal Angel. Others
who were quite impressive and deserve credit were Epps & Suppo
who settled for nett 68 each.
Lower
down the line Rodrisuer, John Chburn, Mike P, Pat & Chuck played
hell messing around in the rough and occasionally moving into the
ponds for good measure. They were happy in the distress they caused
for themselves and enjoyed the game. Latham & Rich were pretty
long and accurate off the tees and were quite comfortable on the
greens that were strange to them.
In
the midst of all the good, bad and indifferent Golf a star performance
surfaced when Lt. Cmdr. Brad Juhl gave his system a stunning shock.
Off the 10th tee the stocky man moved into a mighty drive and in
flight the almighty took over to give the ball kind direction. Dropping
in front of the apron of the 10th the ball bounced off the dry and
parched turf to career to the green and get devoured by the Cup.
The
jubilant Brad jumped for joy and with his pals joining in they performed
a hot jive of joy and excitement. Further joy was to follow when
they returned to the Clubhouse and the glorious 19th when more celebrations
got cracking with incessant Beers. Majeed Awn organized a great
day of the men and they sure must be thankful. |
