Lost
his way
TNA Parliamentarian M.K. Eelaventhan who is one of the most vociferous
among that group of MPs seemed to have lost his way a little last
week. During the course of the sittings, Mr. Eelaventhan who has
a habit of moving in and out of the Chambers quite often accidentally
entered the Chamber from the Government side instead of the Opposition.
Some of those on duty noticed this and told him that he was on the
wrong side of the House. Realising his mistake, Mr. Eelaventhan
rushed out before many others noticed it.
Who
is telling the truth?
JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa stood up to raise an important
issue in Parliament on Friday. He said that the JVP Trincomalee
district MP Jayalath Wijesekara had been approached by UNP Matale
district MP Ranjith Aluvihare to join the UNP and he had been promised
the post of the party's national organiser for the eastern district.
Mr. Aluvihare who was present in the Chamber at the time said that
it was Mr. Weerawansa who a few months ago approached him and invited
him to join the Alliance. It was difficult to say who was telling
the truth but with all the rumours of impending crossovers, nothing
can be dismissed lightly.
A
discovery
In the marketing division of the national television station,
employees made an unexpected 'discovery'. It was a stock of 175
condoms found in the drawer of a senior executive in the division.
Now the hunt is on to find out to whom the stocks belonged.
Eat
more rice
Consumer Affairs Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle told Parliament
last week that of the 50,000 metric tons of flour consumed by Sri
Lankans monthly, 45,000 tons were used to bake bread. With a surplus
paddy harvest expected this year, the minister is hoping that people
will start eating more rice and less bread.
That
way people wouldn't have to worry too much about escalating flour
prices either.
Useful
sport
UNP Kurunegala MP Dayasiri Jayasekera was on his feet
speaking on a private member's motion that seeks to prevent politicians
holding office in sports bodies. During the course of his speech,
the MP reminded the House that he was himself a "Wu Shu"
player.
It
would be a useful sport for all MPs given the amount of physical
activity they have been having of late. |
