Pay
up or face contempt charges

The Supreme Court has ordered the Science and Technology
Minister to settle the compensation payments of former employees
of the Council for Information Technology (CINTEC), which comes
under his purview, before the end of this month or face possible
charges for contempt of court.
The
Supreme Court has notified the minister that in the event of his
failure to supervise the necessary payments before the end of this
month, the lawyers are capable of instituting legal proceedings
for contempt of the Supreme Court.

at CINTEC said that only non-petitioners had been paid the compensation,
while 18 petitioners have to be paid an amount totalling Rs. 6.9
m. CINTEC, a premier government institute for information technology,
no longer exists as all its physical resources have been transferred
to the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), which
comes under the purview of the Prime Minister. The Supreme Court
has ordered the minister to wind up the CINTEC official structure
by paying salary arrears and the necessary compensation. |
