Ruchira
under scrutiny
By Bilal Yusuf
Left arm fast bowler Ruchira Perera will be making
a come back to international cricket after a lapse of two years.
Ruchira Perera who was reported for a suspect action in England
two years ago was forced out of international cricket and struggled
to impress afterwards with certain alterations being made to his
bowling action. However Perera has been able to attract the selectors
attention with some good performances in the provincial tournament.
Despite
Perera's impressive showing in the provincial tournament there have
been certain doubts raised about the legitimacy of his bowling action.
The
Sunday Times contacted Bandula Warnapura regarding this issue "The
necessary steps were taken to correct his bowling action some time
ago, and his bowling action is fine" When asked whether Perera’s
action was within the fifteen degree tolerance level Warnapura said
"we believe his action to be within the tolerance level of
the ICC". So in the forth coming tour of New Zealand Ruchira
Perera will not have to only prove to the selectors that he can
still perform at international level, but will also have to prove
to many cricket followers that his bowling action is legal. |
