Nandos :The best family restaurant in the city
Nandos flame-grilled peri-peri chicken has become a popular dish with culinary fans in Colombo. since the opening of Nandos Lanka on August 10 at Crescat last year.

Flame-grilled chicken basted with mouthwatering peri peri sauce is Nando’s signature dish. A blend of flavour and fire, be it peri-peri chicken prepared with the cooler lemon and herb for the more cautious chicken lovers, or chicken with the fiery extra hot peri peri sauce for the daringly adventurous, there’s something for everyone’s taste buds when it comes to succulent marinated chicken grilled over an open flame.

This spicy chicken dish which originated in Africa through Portuguese explorers has struck a cord with Sri Lankans because of our colonial past, so Sri Lankans identify Nando’s as catering to their very own taste buds.

Nandos food goes down very well with today’s health concious diners, too. Independent research confirms that Nando’s food is low in cholesterol, sodium and saturated fat, relative to other international food chains.

No preservatives colourants or flavourants are used. This has made the Nandos Group a favourite haunt of many a sportsman the world over. Closer to home, Nandos Lanka, too was the daily haunt of the South African cricket team during their recent tour of Sri Lanka, and many famous Sri Lankan sportsmen including our very own cricketers can be seen often having a great time at Nandos.

Nandos peri peri sauce is world famous. It has a high content of vitamin C and is also, reputedly, an aphrodesiac. Peri Peri Hot Marinade sauce was voted UK’s number one sauce in the chillie/spicy sauce category recently.

Nandos will shortly be introducing an exciting weekly draw for diners with air tickets on offer to exotic destinations. Nandos recently added an exciting array of cocktails. Nandos outlets the world over are famous for their cocktails.

They also plan to introduce a ‘Happy Hour’ on Fridays, to accompany their range of delicious chicken items. Diners during Happy Hour will be able to avail themselves of a unmatched and unbelievably priced special menu of meals and drinks which are likely to prove popular.

Sipping the cocktail du jour while unwinding, could be the idyllic end to a hectic week. Wine nights are also on the cards, and Nandos diners will soon learn about world class wines at fun-filled wine tasting sessions.

The fact that Nandos sits in an upmarket shopping mall doesn’t mean that diners must pay over-the-top for a Nandos dining experience. Nandos also offers a range of other menu items including chicken breast burgers, corn on the cob, special Nandos rice and kotthu rotti and many items created especially for each country.

All meats are halal certified. Nandos Lanka is open from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and from 11.00 am to midnight from Friays and Sundays.

“In our restaurants, we encourage noise, we encourage people to use their hands when eating and we encourage family gatherings in the spirit of the good old days. Our motto is that children should be heard and seen eating. Our only table manner request is that people smile and enjoy themselves.” explained Store Manager Alistair Senn.

This ‘out of the box’ approach to casual dining is yet another reason for Nandos popularity and success.
