Bogawantalawa wins Dickoya 7s

Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club (DMCC) being an innovator since the British Planters dominated Rugby Football in the Hill Capital conducted a Sevens tournament in the plantation sector on 26 March 2005 at Darawela grounds in Dickoya.As the date of this tournament happens to coincide with the 3rd month since the devastating tsunami tidal waves lashed Sri Lankan shores, all ticket proceeds were donated towards Tsunami Relief Fund.

Sixteen teams from the Regional Plantation Company battled it out in a show of strength with Bogawantalawa Plantation Co. outclassing the Namunukula Plantations in the Cup final by 24-12.

In the Plate segment Hapugastenna Plantations had an easy outing when they thrashed the daylight of Agrapatana Plantations 36-5 in a one sided affair. Kotagala Plantations beat Watawala Plantations in the Bowl finals by 27-5. In one of the Women's exhibition matches the strong Slimline lasses beat the "Red Shirts" 47-12. The Chief Guest was the Chief Executive Officer of Watawala Plantations Vish Govindasamy who gave away the awards.

Apart from Rugby in which the pride and pageantry of DMCC 's rich and colourful cultural heritage manifest itself, the DMCC Rugby 7's was complemented by several concurrent events on this day with a Carnival atmosphere enveloping players, spectators, guests, invitees and the entire event exploded into a day of Gigantic Rugby Fiesta.
