Vimukthi
in Documentary Film Festival jury
Vimukthi Jayasundara Sri Lankan director who deals with experimental
filmmaking has been selected as a member for the International jury
at the International Documentary Film Festival of Marseilles.
Vimukthi
who had studied and gained experience in cinematography in France
says that creating empathy with the audience should be by influencing
their moods. Thus, for Vimukthi, in filmmaking priority must be
given to produce the relevant “mood” by using film craft
at its best.
His
expertise will make a definite contribution to the Jury Panel at
the Documentary Film Festival of Marseilles which will held from
July 1 to 6 2005 at the National Theatre of Marseilles / La CriÈe.
Now
recognized as the most important documentary film festival in Europe,
International Documentary Film festival of Marseilles in France
celebrates the power and artistry of documentary film. The festival
is an essential art and champions the documentary filmmaker as an
important witness in society.
The
festival supports contemporary documentary creation and the accompanying
work of the selected movies to form connections with French and
international places of distribution. It reserves itself the choice
to screen the films selected for the official selection and films
selected for the parallel screens for FIDMARSEILLE programmation.
The
international jury is appointed by the festival board of directors.
It includes well-known personalities from the film and television
and the artistic and cultural world, in France and abroad.
Vimukthi
was also the first Sri Lankan filmmaker to participate at the competitive
section of the 13th Marseilles Film Festival in 2002 with the film
“The Land of Silence”.
The
film received rave reviews from international critics. The Land
of Silence, Vimukthi’s second short film dealt with ravages
of war. |
