Donors
to meet in Kandy
Donors of the Sri Lanka Development Forum, formerly known as the
Paris Aid Group meeting, will next meet in Kandy from May 15-17
with former US President Bill Clinton also attending the conference.
Explaining
reasons for changing the venue of the meeting, Finance Minister
Sarath Amunugama told The Sunday Times FT that, "for a change
we decided to have it in Kandy (instead of Colombo)."
He
said unlike in the past where donor meetings are held annually in
Paris, the government has changed that to quarterly meetings in
Colombo at mostly ambassador level.
At
a press conference on Thursday, the Finance Minister said Clinton,
currently a special US government tsunami aid representative, has
been invited to attend the meeting.
The
meeting is expected to discuss tsunami aid pledges by donors, inflows,
donor funding for the next year and the peace process and its progress.
