LTTE
kidnaps Army sergeant in Muttur
The LTTE yesterday took an army sergeant into 'custody' in Muttur,
a spokeman for the Army said. The officer identified as H.G. Siriwardhana
was captured in the Thanganagar area and was in possession of a
T 56 automatic rifle and a compass.
The
LTTE claimed that he was captured in an area under its control.
The sergeant had gone in search of six other soldiers who had gone
to bring Palmyrah leaves for fencing, but had lost his way.
LTTE's
Trincomalee political leader S. Elilan had informed SLMM's Trincomalee
chief about the detention. The SLMM had appealed for the release
of the sergeant but until late last night he had not been released
