Temporary
solution to Boy's Home water problem
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has promptly
responded to an appeal made by a Maharagama Boys' Home affected
by shortage of water.
The
Sunday Times last week highlighted the water problem faced by the
children's home located in an uphill area. officials said the pressure
was inadequate to send the water to the home.
The
Water Board was pumping water to the home's tank, Chandra De Silva,
Vice President of the Child Protection Society of Ceylon, said adding
that the home was badly in need of a sump.
"The
boys didn't want to go to school because their uniforms were dirty
and they used to bathe in the rain water," he said. The Maharagama
Boys Home, set up by the Child Protection Society of Ceylon more
than 75 years ago, shelters 30 boys aged between seven and sixteen.
The
boys are kept their during their probation after being tried in
a juvenile court. |
