Aussie
swimming coach at Royal
The Australian Swimming Coach Mr. Grant Watson was brought to Colombo
by the Royal College Union Aquatic Club to Coach the Royal College
swimmers. He is the assistant coach at the Nunawading Swimming Club
Victoria, Melbourne. The Nunawading Swimming Club is the home of
Olympic Breast Stroke Champion Brooke Hanson. Nunawading is one
of Australia's most successful clubs that caters for all swimmers
from junior to elite level athletes. It also needs to be mentioned
that Sri Lanka's Ace swimmer Conrad Francis also trained at Nunawading
with another swimmer from Sri Lanka, Daniel Lee. This relationship
helped develop a desire in Grant to visit Sri Lanka.
Swimming
has been part of Grant's life since learning to swim as a child.
He is a Masters Swimming Club member, swims on a regular basis for
fitness and competes in open water competitions during the summer
season. Grant along with the Gym coach Simon Mule played an important
role in the success of the 2004 Athens Breast stroke Silver medalist
Brook Hanson.
Grant
has been teaching and coaching swimming for many clubs and schools
since 1989. He joined Nunawading Swimming Club in May 1995. Since
then Grant has coached at all levels in the Nunawading squad program,
and is responsible for the Caulfield Grammar School program.
Grant
assists Head Coach Mark Thompson and works with Mark on the senior
and age National squad program. He is responsible for the coordination
and development of a successful junior program.
Grant
is also the Coach representative in the Nunawading Swim Club Committee
and is a member of the Victorian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association
.He has been involved in the Victoria swimming Development Squad
program since he commenced coaching. He is a qualified Austswim
teacher and has a Level 2 Silver Coaching licence.
He
has volunteered to develop the swimming at Royal College and will
be here for a period of 3 weeks.

from Junior Level to Age National Level to elite level. The Royal
College Union Aquatic Club, with Mr. Upali Gunasekera the Principal
at the helm is making all efforts to take college swimming to greater
heights. The Sydney old Boys Association headed by Mr. Sonny Navaratnam
and loyal old Royalist, Mr. Iqbal Hassan and Mr. H.U.Lee extended
their unstinted support and assistance in obtaining grants services. |
