Doctor
groping in the dark
By Bernie Wijesekera
The Defence Services rugby final between Army and
Navy turned out to be a bruising battle of attrition, which Army
won 20-9 under floodlights at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Friday.
But where was the competent doctor in attendance for this body contact
sport constantly plagued by injuries? However a lady doctor was
spotted and urged to answer an urgent call.
Referee
Samrath Fernando made a clarion call for the doctor to rush to the
field. The lady doc was clad in a saree and could hardly be blamed
for being unable to rush to the field. The organizers (The Defence
Services) and the medical authorities would have done well to appoint
a medical officer for such games. Surely, there are plenty of doctors
in the Services.
