Hi
Gorgeous is best
In a thrilling nine furlong event of the Governors Cup Hi Gorgeous
owned by Sri Lanka's top owner and ridden by experienced jockey
Ashok Kumar pulled of a superb win over Amazon Bronze to clinch
the Governor’s Cup giving its owner his third success of the
event in eight years.
Owner
Nigel Austin's earlier wins in this prestigious race was in 1998
when Boomerang took the race and again in 2002 with Ancient Warrior.
It was also the first time that Hi Gorgeous was tackling this distance
and what a race he had. Taking the lead from the word go he maintained
it with Amazon Bronze making a dash only in the last two furlongs
but it was too late. The winning horse thus recorded his 14th win
from 15 runs.
The
winning combination recorded a back to back double with their horse
Khaalis winning the next event which was the Delhi Cup. The days
proceedings began with Sulanga from the stables of Anuka Soza with
Indian jockey Vivek on board winning the first race. Jockey Vivek
landed a back to double on joint owners Serendib Racing Syndicate's
Don Alejandro. The third event of the day was won by another Indian
Jockey M.D.Kareem on board owner Mrs. Chamari Jayaratne's horse
Cadmium. The last event of the day which was for the SriLankan Airlines
sponsored Paris Cup was taken by owner Anurath Abeyratne whose horse
Sonali ridden by another Indian jockey R.B.Shinde.
The
winning horse of the Governor’s Cup in fact is a bred of former
top owner Dr S.M.Noohu and Nigel Austin after receiving the coveted
trophy was grateful to Dr. Noohu for handing over the horse to him.
