Gayan
and Nalin turn track burners
Reigning motorcycle champion Gayan Sandaruwan and Nalin Perera burnt
the track in the annual Nuwara Eliya Motorcross held at Nuwara Eliya
on Tuesday. The duo were in terrific form as they recorded three
wins each and kept the large number of spectators on their toes
with their scintillating riding.
The
meet organized by the Nuwara Eliya Sports Club and sponsored by
Singer saw over 50 participants giving the crowd some fine entertainment.
The meet started off on a low note which began with the novices,
but gathered momentum after the introduction of the two top riders
of Sri Lanka.
It
was Gayan's first appearance for this year and Nalin's participation
after a absence of nearly two years. Though Nalin overcame Gayan
in the first event the two contested in, Gayan made amends by clinching
three events following this loss. It was a miscalculation by Gayan
that denied him making four out of four.
Speaking
to the Sunday Times after the meet ended he said "I thought
there was two laps remaining when in fact I had a chance of overtaking
Nalin almost near the last bend before the finish, but I made the
mistake of slowing down which enabled Nalin to win the event".
