Straight to your senses
By Ishani Ranasinghe
Three bands that are capable of electrifying your senses. A solo performance by a leading artiste. Four dance performances that will definitely get your toes tapping. A hewisi band joining the line up… An evening representing all genres of music… What more can there be to make a concert electrifying to its very core? The answer is simple… nothing really. At least nothing that I can think of.

Last week we spoke to the organisers to get a glimpse of what can be expected if you were to go for Razzmatazz and this week we speak to… This would be the time that I would say I will be speaking to the performers, but instead I thought of giving you a slight taste of what they are like, by speaking to people who have actually seen these bands performing and as for the new bands… I spoke to them.

Three bands… Septerra, Centigradez, Jada are performing on one stage to thrill the crowd and bring an amazing combination of music to you. Centigradez is a talented group of young people whose songs have reached almost everyone in Sri Lanka. Take their hit “Dark Angel” which is one popular track that everyone has hummed along to at some point. If you haven’t heard of it, you have definitely been living under a rock! This is the extent of their popularity!

Another performance you wouldn’t want to miss is undoubtedly Jada. Ask anyone about Jada and in a heartbeat anyone who has heard them will say ‘brilliant.’ The band has a lot of talent that has really got them to be a hit among teenagers. A friend of mine after seeing them perform was raving about them for weeks.

Joining these two bands to perform will be Septerra. A relatively new band to the music scene, not many people have seen them perform on stage. Yet of the people I have met who have seen them perform, they are pretty much fans of the band. With three amazing bands performing, things can definitely only get better when Anil Balasuriya takes the stage.

I doubt I need to tell you much about this individual, as he is one of those people who has an amazing presence that just gets the crowd going. The lead singer of one of the most popular bands here in Sri Lanka, Independence Square, there is no doubt about his performance being worthwhile sitting through.

Adding to all this will be four dance performances; two by the students of Visakha Vidyalaya, one by Ladies College and another by Frisk. The dancing segments will bring the audience a mix of almost all types of dance movements that will definitely be a crowd pleaser. With all that happening one would think that the night is all set, but there is more for you. Bringing in a traditional touch with a unique twist into their performance will be the hewisi band of S. Thomas College. I must add one thing here. I have seen them perform and they are good. So you might want to take up this chance to see them.

Definitely all signs of an enjoyable event. Yes, things have changed a little from what they had originally decided (the whole outdoor blast), but this will be good and by the sounds of it even better. Here is something you can look forward to, something that will be fun and different. Something you might want to go to, because you might just regret not going for it.

Razzmatazz will thrill the audience on April 30 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium from 7.00 p.m. onwards. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Sri Punyakani Vidyalaya, Mount Lavinia and Waishaka Vidyalaya, Wellawatte, while another will be used for tsunami aid in terms of rebuilding. Tickets are priced at Rs. 350, Rs. 300, Rs. 250 and Rs. 200. The main sponsor for this event is Slimline, while the media sponsors are ETV and TNL Radio.
