60
cops swoop on alleged killer
In a massive operation involving more than 60 men, Police last night
arrested the trishaw driver who is alleged to have set fire to a
private bus in Mahabage at dawn on Friday, killing its conductor.
Senior
Superintendent J. Abeysirigunawardene said he deployed more than
sixty police officers to track down the suspect who was arrested
last night in Kandana.
The
SSP said the suspect had confessed that on Thursday night he and
the conductor of the bus had an argument after his trishaw collided
with the bus which had broken down on the middle of the road due
to a brake problem.
After
the argument, the suspect had returned with a gang at dawn, poured
petrol on to the bus and set fire to it while the conductor was
sleeping inside. The Police are looking for the other suspects involved
in the arson and the killing that sparked a one-day private bus
strike on the Negombo road on Friday.
