NCPA
wants action on teachers inciting students
By N. Dilshath Banu
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said
the Education Ministry should take stern action against teachers
who are encouraging students to take part in protests.
"There
are no legal provisions that would stop children being used in protests,
but the Education Ministry must intervene and take disciplinary
action against teachers who force students into participating in
protest campaigns," NCPA Chairman Prof. Harendra De Silva said.
"We
are in the process of discussing this matter with Education Ministry
officials," he added. Special police squads were on duty earlier
last week near some of the leading schools in Colombo.
However,
the protestors couldn't carry out the protests as a result of the
tight security. Some parents who were hoping to join the protest
were dispersed peacefully by the police. |
