Land
fraud case: expert's report given to court

The internationally famed handwriting expert Prof. Dr. P Chandrasekeran
this week appeared before the High Court and submitted his report
on the documents in question with regard to the Obeysekera property
in which former military spokesman Sumedha Perera is among those
indicted.
Dr.
Chandrasekeran who was threatened over the phone not to undertake
the examination and scrutinise the documents that are believed to
be forgeries, had earlier informed court he was in no position to
appear before it. However, he appeared and handed over his report
on the documents, amidst tight security.
Defence
counsel requested further time from High Court judge Rohini Perera
to examine the report before evidence is led.
Former
Sri Lanka Bar Association Secretary Bandula Wijesinghe and Colonel
Sumedha Perera together with H.M. Sarath Wijewardena were indicted
by the Attorney General on charges of claiming the land and property
of philanthrophist Fredrick Wimaladharma Obeysekera through forged
doc `uments. Hearing was postponed for May 9 with the trial to be
conducted daily for two weeks. |
