The Presidential Investigation Unit and the US Embassy in Colombo
are conducting separate investigations on a case where an American
citizen with a record of child molestation had worked for an NGO
engaged in rehabilitation of tsunami-affected children.
Daniel
Carey, who worked as an advisor for US NGO Heylix Foundation has
left the country when the NGO came under the scrutiny of the National
Child Protection Authority.
"The
security unit of the US Embassy is conducting investigations with
the Police," Embassy spokesperson Helaena Rathore said. The
Heylix Foundation was working closely with the Kithlampitiya Ruhunu
Children's Home in Galle.
According
to NCPA sources, Mr. Carey's wife is still in Sri Lanka and is in
control of the finances of the unregistered NGO. |
