And the winner is ....

Winners of Sri Lanka's first Community Leader Awards
Winners of Sri Lanka's inaugural Community Leader Awards were announced on Friday night at a gala dinner hosted by CIMA Sri Lanka to honour delegates attending the Global Leaders Summit.

The winners were - Large Category - Unilever Sri Lanka (Gold), David Peiris Motor Co (Silver) and American & Efird Lanka Ltd (Bronze); Medium Category - Kandalama Hotels (Gold), Brandix Finishing Ltd (Silver) and Royal Fernwood Porcelain Ltd (Bronze); Small Category - No winner (Gold), Club Palm Garden (Silver) and Union Chemical Lanka Ltd (Bronze).

The Sunday Times Business Club, in collaboration with CIMA, initiated this new award aimed at bringing the private sector and the community together in a long-term partnership that would steer responsible business ethics and future development of the country.

John Keells Holdings Limited (JKH) was the strategic partner of the project with the first year awards focussing on Waste Management. Other partners were the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC).

Awards were presented by Roland Kaye, President CIMA Global, Sumithra Gunasekera, Director, John Keells Holdings, Claude Perera President, CIMA Sri Lanka, Sanjeewa Samaranayake, President, The Sunday Times Business Club, Charles Tilley CEO CIMA, Lalith Fonseka, Deputy President, CIMA Sri Lanka, Upali Ratnayake, Director Business Development, CIMA Sri Lanka, and Aravinda Perera, Chairman CSR Committee.

The technical advisors were K H Muthukuda, acting Deputy Director General, CEA, (CEA) and Sena Peiris, Director, NCPC. The judging panel comprised Dr Suren Wijekoon, Senior Lecturer, Chemical & Process Engineering Department, University of Moratuwa, Ms. Devika Vithanage, Asst Director, Pollution Control Division, CEA, M N R Cooray, Manager, Small & Medium Enterprise Development, Keerthi Rasaputra, Director, Regional Cleaner Production Centre, N S Gamage, Asst Director - Env. Pollution Control, CEA, and Sunanda Devapriya, Senior Environmental Officer, CEA.
