Mahathir
on big powers
By Feizal Samath
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, lashed out at
the leaders of the US, Britain and Australia, saying the world would
be unsafe with their re-election.
“The
world won’t be very stable. The big powers are led by people
with no good morals, no moral qualities. Howard of Australia, Bush
of America and Blair of Britain are known to have lied and yet they
have been re-elected as leaders. You can’t expect much from
these people,” he told The Sunday Times in an exclusive interview
just before departure.
Dr.
Mahathir, the architect of Malaysia’s economic boom, was on
a slightly over 24-hour visit in which he was presented a special
award by Sri Lankan Muslims for outstanding leadership and made
the keynote address at the CIMA Global Leaders Summit in which The
Sunday Times FT was the media sponsor. Many other events were squeezed
into his visit including being hosted to dinner by President Kumaratunga,
and meeting the tiny Malay community in Sri Lanka.
