case: expert states his credentials
By Teles Anandappa
Prof. Dr. P. Chandra Sekeran, the Indian forensic expert invited
to give evidence in the Obeysekerapura land fraud case this week
explained to court his experience in examining questionable documents
and said he had 40 years experience in the subject.
He
was being was cross examined by M.L.M. Ameen PC, regarding his experience
and competency when the case was taken up before High Court Judge
Rohini Perera.
In
this case former BASL Secretary Bandula Wijesinghe, former Military
Spokesman Sumedha Perera and caretaker Sarath Wijewardena are accused
of fraudulently claiming property of the late Fredrick Obeysekera.
The professor earlier told court the signatur
es
in the documents in doubt were found to have several differences
from that of the signatures of the late Mr. Obeysekera, when he
examined them. He said he had 40 years of experience in this field
since 1967 and had been trained by highly qualified experts in India.
When
asked by P.C. Ameen as to how he had 40 years experience from 1967
till 2007 he replied that he mentioned1967 because he could sign
documents only from that year but he had been trained 3 years earlier
but was not authorised to sign documents. Further continuous cross
examination by Mr. Ameen regarding his competency and experience
and also how he had 40 years experience prompted the professor to
say that he has appeared in several courts and given his expert
comments but had never been humiliated like this.
He
said he was competent and has had enough experience to examine and
give his candid opinion on the alleged forged documents. He also
said he was trained by his instructor who was referred to as Leonardo
Da Vinci because he was so efficient. |
