Susie
drops out again
By M. Shamil Amit
Sri Lanka's 200m bronze medallist at the Sydney Olympics
2000 and a pull out in last year's Athens Olympics will miss out
on all the major international athletic events this year as she
will not be participating in all the selection trials that are due
to be held in the coming months. The first of the trials is due
to be held on June 3 and 4 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
Susanthika
is yet to overcome her fracture and has been advised to take a rest.
She is expected to be out for at least one year. Hence she will
be unable to participate in the World Athletic Championship scheduled
for August in Helsinki.
The
last time she took part in a major event was in the Asian Grand
Prix last year but she was just a shadow of her best. Meanwhile
over 650 athletes that include some of the big names have entered
the fray for selection who will be out for the first time this year.
This
trial will be one of the two to be held before the Helsinki World
Championship in August. The events due to be held on the two days
are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, 100m hurdles,
400m hurdles, 3000m steeple chase, high jump, long jump, triple
jump, pole vault, discuss, javelin and shot putt. |
