"Sudan" dye not in Lankan foods
The Food Control Administration Unit of the Ministry of Healthcare,
Nutrition and Uva Wellassa Development through its broad range of
food inspectors have carried out inspections and found that a dye
called 'Sudan', is not contained in some food items here as reported.
All
Medical officers of Health, Food and Drugs Inspectors (including
those who carry out imported food inspection), Food Inspectors and
Public Health Inspectors throughout the country were asked to exercise
special surveillance of the suspected products. "Accordingly
the officials concerned have taken action to prevent entry of these
products into the country and the field surveillance conducted reveals
that products belonging to the categories referred to are not available
in the market.
Analysis
of similar products carried out has proven negative for the suspected
dye," a statement from the Chief Food Authority said. These
measures were taken after press reports that some food items are
said to be contaminated with a red coloured dye called "Sudan
1" reported in the UK and surfacing here. |
