Bus fares may go up by 15 %

Private bus fares are to be increased from July 1 if the Transport Ministry approves a request of the National Transport Commission, according to Chairman Amal Kulatunga.

The NTC has sought an icnrease of 15 percent which would mean a minimum increase of Rs. 4 to 5. According to NTC policy, fares are increased once a year and the hike this time is based on higher diesel prices and other costs. Last year, fares were increased by 8 percent.
