The GMOA alleged that the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) had summoned
a special meeting to grant recognition to a group of apothecaries
who obtained a six-month Russian Diploma in medicine.
The
GMOA had protested against this academic fraud and requested the
Health Minister to appoint a committee to investigate the matter.
The
Committee chaired by Director General of Health Services Dr. Athula
Kahandaliyanage had advised the SLMC to continue the suspension
already in force on the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy diploma
till a formal inquiry was conducted. The GMOA yesterday requested
the SLMC to refrain from taking any unilateral action as this matter
had been referred to the National Council for Administration. |
