Tax
cards end of the month
The Sri Lanka National Council for Economic Development (NCED),
towards creating a positive tax culture in Sri Lanka, is launching
a 'Privilege Card' together with the Department of Inland Revenue
for individual tax payers. Gold Privilege Cards will be given to
citizens who paid Rs 1 million or more and for non-citizens who
paid Rs 2 million or more for the tax year 2003/4 and Silver Privilege
Cards for citizens who paid between Rs 500,000 to Rs 1 million and
for non citizens who paid between Rs 1 million to 2 million for
the tax year 2003/4.
"This
card is especially to encourage and recognise individuals who declare
their proper taxes and pay their income tax on time" said R.
P. L. Weerasinghe, Commissioner General, Department of Inland Revenue
and co-chair, NCED Tax Cluster, in a statement.
The
Department of Inland Revenue the owners of this project is offering
a range of benefits for the privilege cardholders from VIP treatment
at Immigration and Emigration counters in the Bandaranaike International
Airport, pre-approved credit cards from the state banks with many
other facilities, overdraft facilities and housing loan facilities
at the state banks, privileged treatment at the Inland Revenue and
priority status at all state institutions. |
