Seven
ODI’s are on –Tryphon
Contrary to reports appearing in the media, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)
confirmed that they will be playing seven one dayers and not five
during their tour to India in November this year.
SLC‘s
interim committee secretary speaking to the Sunday Times said,”
As discussed and agreed with officials of the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) Sri Lanka will be playing seven one dayers
and three tests in November”.
Triangular
on schedule
Mirando also ruled out the possibility of postponing next month’s
triangular tournament by a week due to logistical problems. “We
are not in a position to postpone the triangular as requested by
India due to various reasons”. India requested a postponement
in order to accommodate a couple of Asian Eleven versus African
eleven games during that period. However as Sri Lanka is not in
a position to postpone the tournament India is now looking at re-scheduling
the Asian-African games.
Meanwhile
Sri Lankan players Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Chandana and Chaminda
Vaas are expected to return to the island and begin preparations
for the forthcoming triangular after their brief stints with the
English counties. However champion off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan
is not expected until later this week as the spinner is scheduled
to attend two charity dinners to raise funds for his Charity Foundation.
Player
contracts
SLC Interim committee secretary Tryphon Mirando also confirmed that
players’ contracts have been finalized and will be signed
this week. ”We have spoken to the players and finalized their
contracts. We expect to sign these contracts after the return of
the players who are overseas”.
