‘Sihina
Horu Aran’ goes on boards
National award-winning drama, Sihina Horu Aran, written and directed
by Rajitha Dissanayake will be staged at the Elphinstone Theatre
on June 22 at 3.30 and 6.45 p.m.
Sihina Horu Aran, Rajitha’s latest play after his phenomenal,
Weeraya Merila or ‘Hero is Dead’, has already created
great enthusiasm in the field of theatre. As usual, Rajitha has
brought up contemporary power politics and sex onto Sinhala stage
with an extremely entertaining and well-crafted work of dramatic
art.
Brilliantly
acted by a well-known cast that includes, Jayani Senanayake, the
“Best Actress of the Year,” Gihan Fernando in the central
role Sihina Horu Aran is a magical web of human characters entangled
in a bloody political game.
The cast also includes some of the best actors in today’s
Sinhala theatre, Dayadeva Edirisingha, Prasad Suriyaarachchi, Priyankara
Rathnayake, Dharmapriya Dias giving some memorable performances.
Relatively
new-comers to the field, Shyam Fernando, Tharindi Fonseka also display
fresh talent in acting rarely seen on the contemporary stage. In
terms of both its presentation and the subject matter this is not
only a thought-provoking play but also a masterly crafted work of
drama that should not be missed. |
