By M. Shamil Amit Amit
Boxers from Unichela BC and Army won three gold’s each from
the nine finals held in the ABA Women’s Novices Boxing Meet
concluded at the Police Field Force Boxing Hall in Colombo yesterday.
The award for the best boxer went to M.S.C. de Silva of Police who
won two golds while the best loser’s award was claimed by
R.C.M.A. Ratnayake of the Army.
Incidentally
the two boxers fought it out in the Light Fly Weight Under 48kgs
which went on the wire with both the fighters gaining 35 points
each. But the judges awarded the win to Silva which most did not
agree. A senior referee speaking later said that the judgment given
in most of the finals that were conducted yesterday was not satisfactory.
He further said if the judges are going to carry on in this manner
boxing is going to suffer.
