Shanil
Fernando wins Tag Heuer Golf Watch
The Annual South West Monsoon met together with the Tag Heuer Contest
for the Tiger Woods Professional Watch concluded successfully last
Saturday at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Shathanu Mukerjee Area
Manager South Asia for Tag Heuer happily presided over the Award
Ceremony joined by Akram Cassim, Chief Executive of Colombo Jewellery
Stores.
The
Tag Heuer Challenge for the world’s first ever Professional
Golf Watch took off in excellent weather on Saturday with 100 or
more vying for the plum. Young Shanil Fernando quite new to golf
and the Ridgeways was in splendid form taking full control of his
game from the 1st tee shot and in majestic style he stalked the
course to end 9 under par nett 62. A magnificent score and well
worthy of the accolades and applause he received at the Awards Ceremony.
The renowned Watch adorns his left wrist while the domestic front
went wild with jubilation. Wife Shayanika and Parents-in-law Chandra
and Shirlene de Silva packed fixed smiles of glee through the award
ceremony and dinner time and I suppose they deserved that pleasure.
The performance was praiseworthy and outstanding.
Ahamed
Excels
Arshad Ahamed came back to the scene with a super 4 par nett 67
to take the “A” Division Classic from stylist Arjun
Fernando. Ahamed a glutton for celebrating played merry hell in
great company.
Lee

M.H. Lee was quite impressive with nett 65 beating young Dilip Kodikara
who shot an excellent nett 66 in Division ‘B’.
IM
Impressive
S.O. Im performed superbly to bring home a creditable nett 65 and
beating Shavindra Fonseka by 4 strokes in the ‘C’ Division.
Seniors
K.K.U. Perera once again snapped up the Seniors Trophy with nett
66. A dependable player with a perfected Old Waltz swing he enjoys
victory and relishes celebrating with his pals Padmasiri Dias and
Norman Chandraratne. Norman Gunawardena after messing around for
months came good with nett 70.
Gymkhana Events
Jit Wanigasekera swung a beauty off the 9th tee to settle closest
to the pin and collect a Tag Heuer & celebrate incessantly.
Arshad Ahamed beamed all evening with his 2nd Trophy and later hosted
his pals at the Guv’nors spiritual abode. He won the 6 hidden
holes contest. Despite the greens not being as good as they were
under his supervision Nirmal Hettiaratchi in masterly style took
only 11 strokes to cover 4 par three holes for a Tag Heuer.
Awards
The ceremony was classic thanks to Azhara Aziz’s classy presentation
skills. Akram Cassim and Shathanu Mukerjee distributed the awards
of many Tag Heuer Watches to the deserving winners amidst applause
a tribute to the success of the Tag Heuer Challenge Trophy. A sizable
crowd thronged the award ceremony more guests than participants
and spouses. The fashion scene was easy and soothing to the eyes
and those who attracted very special attention were Niranjali Perera
who was the star attraction followed by Gayathri Fonseka, Sunanda
Withananachchi, Anusha Dias and Yvonne de Silva. |
