Rupavahini
felicitates Malani

The queen of Sri Lankan cinema Malani Fonseka was felicitated on
Rupavahini with the screening of some of the films that that brought
her fame and prestige.
Sri
Lanka Rupavahini Corporation will pay tribute to this experienced
actress who coloured Sri Lankan cinema for over four decades. Malani
whose talent was recognised both locally and internationally was
awarded the Best actress on a number of occasions. In the international
arena she was awarded for her role in Dharmasiri Pathiraja's film
Eya Den Loku Lamayek at the 9th Moscow International Film Festival.
In
"Punchi Baba" in 1968 Malani made her debut in cinema.
Like many good actresses she too started her journey from the stage
and she was popular for her role in the "Akal Wessa" stage
drama.
Malani
who became a popular actress with her performances in films 'Thusara',
'Hathara Denama Surayo' and 'Kawuda Raja' proved her professionalism
in 'Nidhanaya', 'Bambaru Ewith', 'Soldadu Unnahe' and 'Dandu Monara'.
Gifted actress, Malani also became popular for her film direction
'Sasara Chethana', 'Ahinsa' and 'Sthri'.
The
Sunday 12 noon films in July is dedicated to screen films of Malani.
The four popular films open with 'Sthri' which will be screened
today (July 3) in which Malani plays the lead as well as direct.
Based on a novel by Arawwala Nandimithra the film stars Joe Abeywickrema,
Cyril Wickremage, Jayalath Manoratne and Hemasiri Liyanage.
Gamini
Hewawitharana's "Raktha" will be screened on July 10.
This film based on Daya Rajapakse's comedy. Joining Malani are Robin
Fernando, Mervin Jayathunge and Rex Kodippili playing the stellar
cast. It is the first time that both the above films are being screened
on the Rupavahini channel.
"Ektem Ge" Herbert Ranjith Perera's masterpiece that was
released in the prestigious star in the film.
Sugathapala
Senerath Yapa's classic film "Induta Mal Mitak' in which Malani
played opposite Ravindra Randeniya will be telecast on the last
Sunday July 24.
